Public Works oversees the maintaining of roads, water systems, parks and landscaping for property owned and operated by the City of Alvarado.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has been working with the city on the proposed improvements to Interstate 35W northbound from CR 604/CR 707 to U.S. 67. TxDOT is now planning an upcoming virtual public hearing starting on Tuesday, December 7 at 6 pm through Wednesday, December 22. There will also be an in-person option by appointment only on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 from 10 am to 7 pm at the TxDOT Johnson County Area Office, 2200 FM 2280, Keene, Texas, 76031.
