The Alvarado Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

Located approximately 12 miles south of Fort Worth, 25 miles from Dallas, and at the crossroads of two major highway systems (IH35W and U.S.67), the City of Alvarado is poised to experience substantial growth in the near future. New employees receive $4,7,600 - $48,680 (annually, DOQ), with additional pay for longevity and certifications through TCOLE. In addition to pay, the city offers a competitive health plan, TMRS retirement, 2 weeks vacation annually after first year, and allows for the accrual of holiday and sick time.

Here at the Alvarado Police Department, new officers enter into the Patrol Division. There they are assigned to a day or night shift, working 6-6. The shifts are 12 hour shifts and afford even the newest officer the opportunity to have every other weekend off. In a typical 2 week pay period, officers work Monday/Tue; Friday/Saturday/Sunday; Wednesday/Thu. This equates to not being scheduled to work for half of the calendar year, leaving you plenty of opportunities to enjoy time outside of the job.

To apply, a person must be currently Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Certified or be in the process of obtaining certification. Ability to work all shifts, holidays and weekends, and a variety of assignments as directed. Minimum age 21. High School of GED.

Applicants must pass a physical agility test, firearms proficiency test, written exam, oral interview board, background check, psychological, and post-offer medical exam and drug screen. Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, valid State of Texas driver's license and good driving record, must have never been convicted of a Class B misdemeanor in the last ten years or ever been convicted of a Class A misdemeanor. Military discharges must be Honorable. TCOLE discharges must be Honorable.

To take the first step in joining our team simply complete the basic city application. This document can be found on the City of Alvarado Web-Page, scroll over departments, and then clicking on Human Resources. Applicants will then be scheduled a date/time to take the written entrance exam consisting of basic math, reading, and writing. Upon successful completion of the entrance exam, applicants will proceed to the physical agility portion of the testing (row machine or run/push-ups, sit-ups). Passing applicants then move into the background process/oral review board, followed by the Chief's Interview, physical, and drug screening.

Requirements

To be eligible, a person must be certified by the Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as a Texas Peace Officer or in the process of obtaining certification. Applicants must be of good moral character and pass a thorough background check, which may include polygraph.

Public Works General Laborer

  • Department: Public Works

Summary

Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled laborer tasks either working as part of a crew such as for water, waste water, roads, streets, or may work alone or with other laborers performing miscellaneous clean up or repair activities. Maintains city public areas, including:

  • City parks
  • Pool
  • Athletic fields
  • Rights-of-Way

This position is responsible for the daily and routine maintenance of:

  • City water lines and facilities
  • Waste water lines and facilities
  • Municipal grounds
  • Rights-of-Way
  • Municipal grounds
  • Municipal recreation facilities / buildings
  • The wooded or urban forest

The work consists of operating a variety of equipment such as a pick-up truck, backhoe, utility tractor with attachments and / or 3point hitch implements, and commercial mowers. In addition, the employee may supervise seasonal employees and volunteers.

Work Performed

  • Assist senior staff members in the day-to-day maintenance activities
  • Repairs, paints and may assist in construction of public facilities and buildings
  • Collects brush and debris and disposes of properly
  • Cleans and maintains public grounds
  • Responsible for driving vehicles and equipment over the highway from site to site
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe working environment
  • Assists with special events and activities
  • Assists parks as needed on mowing, cleaning up debris, weed-eating and other duties related to parks as the need arises and assigned

SUMMARY

Performs a variety of unskilled and skilled laborer tasks either working as part of a crew such as for mowing or park maintenance or may work alone or with other laborers performing miscellaneous clean up or repair activities. Performs various tasks to maintain parks and grounds. Maintains city public areas, including city parks, pool, athletic fields and rights-of-way. This is a skilled and semi-skilled position responsible for the daily and routine maintenance of city parks, school grounds, athletic facilities, municipal grounds, municipal recreation facilities/buildings and the urban forest. The work consists of operating a variety of equipment such as a pick-up truck, 1-Ton dump truck, utility tractor with attachments and/or 3point hitch implements, and commercial mowers. In addition, the employee may supervise seasonal employees and volunteers.

WORK PERFORMED

  • Assist senior staff members in the day-to-day maintenance activities
