In the most historic election held in Alvarado since 1878, when voters decided to incorporate the city, an election was held on May 6, 2023, to approve or reject a city charter and become a home rule city. The proposition passed with 69% of the voters in favor of the change.
This City of Alvarado Charter is equivalent to our constitution. It will be the document that will guide future decisions and provides elected officials with more self-governance. It also gives the citizens of the City more ways to make a difference in the city.
City leadership hopes you will take the time to read the charter and become familiar with it.
